Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls

Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls
Personified Collaboration.

Part 1: Overview

Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls is yet another spin-off within the Hyperdimension Neptunia franchise. This time the game is a crossover game between the Hyperdimension Neptunia series and the Sega Hard Girls series, two franchises that turn video game consoles into personified magical girls. It is an action adventure RPG game with some unique time travel elements, created by Felistella, Compile Heart and Idea Factory.

Part 2: Story

Unlike most Neptunia game, this  game follows IF, or "Iffy", as it's protagonist. Iffy lives in a world that is almost devoid of life, which does a good job setting the serious tone this game seems to have a lot of the time as well as making it obvious that this does not take place within the Hyperdimension continuity. Iffy is in search of the Grand Library that administers all of the world's history. During this, the second protagonist makes her entrance in classic Neptunia fashion by falling out of the sky, only to be caught by IF, not only that, but she's also an amnesiac and has no memories besides vague things. Eventually, the two girls learn that someone or something is destroying time and Histoire, the guardian of the library, enlists their help, modifying IF's motorbike in order to let it travel through time. They then begin their journey to save time and take down the Time Eater.

Many recognizable characters show up within the story with plenty of interesting character conflicts and dire situations and plenty of Neptunia-styled shenanigans as well as some interesting plot twists later down the road. It is a must see for fans of Neptunia or Sega Hard Girls.

Part 3: Gameplay

The gameplay in Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls adopts a gameplay style very similar to the mainline Hyperdimension Neptunia RPGs, however, there are differences. In combat you can only attack one enemy at a time, though their is a rush attack completely unique to this style. Not only that, but during the walking around sections, the player character can climb on ladders and ropes and even crawl through holes.

However, there is also one more big and unique gameplay element and that is the time aspects. All missions have a counter on them, if you do not complete the mission before the timer hits zero, it is eaten by the Time Eater, which causes him to grow stronger, different missions have a certain amount of stars which shows how important they are to time, the more stars, the stronger the Time Eater's buff if it consumes the mission.

It is possible to challenge the final boss, the Time Eater at any point, if any missions are left uncompleted when challenging him, he will automatically eat them and receive their buffs. If you lose to the Time Eater, it causes repeat to occur where you are sent back to the beginning of the game, although you keep all of the memories you had obtained and all buffs are removed from the Time Eater, allowing you to try to complete any missions you previously missed or ones that had been previously consumed by the Time Eater. This repeat cycle will continue until you become strong enough and / or make the Time Eater weak enough for you to defeat it, allowing you to reach the ending.

Part 4: Conclusion

In conclusion, Superdimension Neptune Vs Sega Hard Girls is a brilliant game, especially for a spin-off. It takes elements from all different Neptunia games and brings them together with a great and surprisingly complex plot and memorable characters. I'd give this game a solid 8/10.
