Part 1: Overview

Quantum Suicide is a psychological horror survival game created by Cotton Candy Cyanide, an all new indie game company, this game being their first release. The game is a visual novel and has a fresh take on the classic 'Death Game' premise, taking place on a shuttle in outer space. The game released on Steam in 2020 and is planned to release on consoles in the future. As of now, the game is still very niche, however, it has a small community of dedicated and loving fans.

Part 2: Story

The story follows a nameable protagonist of either gender. The protagonist wakes up in a pod aboard the Everett, a ship carrying the last remains of the human race. The ship and crew are currently in search of a planet to inhabit and repopulate after Earth became uninhabitable. After waking up we are greeted with the Vogel twins; Nikolas and Beatrix, who we learn have been taking care of us since we arrived on the ship, eventually meeting the Captain and ship's A.I system fittingly named Ai.

Everything seems all well and good. besides being confined to our quarters, until Yoshiki lets us know of the situation we have found ourselves in. After boarding the Everett, the A.I system detected that there were too many crew onboard for the current amount of resources and this activates a rogue part of her programming, causing the A.I to gain a second personality named Dai. To solve the issue, Dai decides that they must decrease the size of the crew and such puts in a sadistic game called the 'Deletion Game' where the crew must play different games, where the loser is executed.

The game is named after the theory of the same name, Quantum Suicide and Quantum Immortality, these being an offspring of the many worlds interpretation. As such, in the game you play through many different dimensions and different versions of the same story, and being able to use knowledge you've gained from one to help with another.

The game is filled with many twists and heartfelt character moments, as well as plenty of betrayal and murder, which have left impressions on many player's hearts. It truly is a thrilling and heart retching read.

Part 3: Gameplay

The gameplay mainly consists of reading and selecting different options on what to do, who to speak to, and options relating to the current Deletion Game, however, there is also one other big part of the gameplay. During every dimension where the player doesn't die, it will eventually come to a point where the player has to enter an override code for the ship's A.I system, however, the player of course does not have the code, resulting in a bad end.

During the game, the player must go through many different dimensions, slowly putting together clues for the code so they can work it out and eventually enter the code to continue to the ending of each dimension.

During each dimension, you are also required to romance a certain character, getting closer and bonding with them over the course of the story and depending on your gender, you will either get together with them our become closer friends after being rejected at the end of that dimension. There are even secret endings to romance surprising characters such as Dai and even the player's other gender counterpart.

The different Deletion Game rounds all have different rules and as such, different ways to be played.

The first game is 'Make Ten', where every player has been assigned a card of a different number and the goal is to make ten, you can do this by either combining cards, trading cards and giving cards. At the end of the game, the player who wasn't able to make ten, or the player with the lowest number will be executed.

The second game is 'Logiship', every player is assigned a ship, however, nobody knows who's ship is who's, even their own. Everyone is also given a clue about who is where, in order to figure out where everyone is, you are required to have all of the clues. At the end of the game, every player must fire a torpedo at one of the ships, the first player to be hit by two torpedo's will be executed, be careful not to shoot yourself!

The third game is 'Bidding Wars', in this game the players are split into two teams, Team A and Team B, and each team has a captain. Each battle, the captain must allocate points freely to their team and at least two of the four members must have points. The players will be ordered highest to lowest and will face off against the opposing team in that order. With each player, if your number is higher, points are awarded to the team and to the
individual. After three battles, the team with the most points wins. The person with the least amount of points on the losing team is executed, if there are multiple people with the lowest points, the team captain is executed. If the two teams tie then both team captains are executed.

The last game is 'Vampire Children', every player is either given the role of human or vampire, there is only one vampire at the start. Every round of the game you can choose to breed with someone or not. When two humans breed, two children are born and are added to the human's total count of human babies, if a vampire and a human breed, no babies are born, but that human unknowingly becomes a vampire for the rest of the game, and for points sake, a vampire child. At the end of three rounds, the amount of human and vampire babies are tallied. If the humans have more babies, the starting vampire is executed, if the vampire has more babies, then the human that created the fewest human babies is executed. To make things fairer to the Vampire, the vampire can choose a Bonnie to their Clyde, one human can choose to willingly and knowingly breed with the vampire in the first round and will win and lose alongside the vampire. If the vampires win, so do they, and so they are spared from death, however, if the vampires lose, so does that person and there is a double execution.

Part 4: Bonus Content

Quantum Suicide includes two bonus events 'Christmas Everett' and 'Trick Or Treat'.

In 'Christmas Everett', you play as Ai and/or Dai depending on your options and work to either allow everyone to have a happy Christmas or kill every crew member. If you play as Dai you are greeted with a Christmas song that is sung by Dai.

In 'Trick Or Treat' you play a special round of the deletion game. In this game it is the protagonist versus the crew. There are eight rounds, each round, the player plays against a new member of the crew and must choose to 'Trick' or to 'Treat'. If both players treat, both players receive one point. If one player tricks while the other treats, the person who tricked gets two points whilst the other receives nothing. If both players trick, no points are awarded, however the 'Trick Round' is triggered. During the 'Trick Round', the crew member states a fact about themselves and the player must decide if it is true or a lie, if the player is correct, they are awarded three points, if they get it wrong, the opponent is awarded three points. At the end, if the crew has more points, then the player is executed. However, if the player has more points, nobody is executed.

Part 5: Conclusion

In conclusion, Quantum Suicide has an amazing plot and a beautiful cast of characters. However, the game does have a variety of glitches that can take you out of the experience as well as a few mistakes here and there that can make the game feel unfinished. Despite these issues, the story and characters more than make up for it, and it is promised that these issues will be ironed out in future updates.

I would give Quantum Suicide a 7/10.
